A friend of mine told me a year ago to put garlic cloves into raw honey and let it sit for a couple weeks, then to use it at the first sign of a cold or flu coming on. Adults in the family eat the cloves and kids eat the honey. I put the garlic in the honey, tried it a couple of times, and then forgot about it till now. Garlic and honey are antibacterial but I’m wondering:
Once herbs are in raw honey how long is it good for?
I am a bee keeper. I took a beekeeping course from the University of Minnesota last year and the instructor recommended not using a filter smaller than 600 microns as anything smaller would remove the pollen from the honey. Also, be careful not to over heat honey, as you can ruin the amino acids and other constituents in the honey. We heat our honey to a max of 90 degrees for bottling. As a general rule, heat it no hotter than a hive would.
