I’ve read on the forum of several herbs that interact with they thyroid – one being Echinacea. I’ve also read about Ashwagandha and thyme. Are there others that should concern me? I take thyroid meds currently. Also is the interaction with Echinacea serious enough not to use it.

No.
My numbers indicate that I’m pretty close to having Hyperthyroid issues. Before my last test, I’d been taking Ashwagandha with my thyroid meds.

Homestead InstructorThere are herbs that stimulate thyroid production and herbs that decrease it. I’m confused about which you’re trying to do.
You said in your first post that you were “on thyroid meds” but then said “My numbers indicate that I’m pretty close to having Hyperthyroid issues.“
Are you on meds to increase thyroid hormone or to decrease it?

Homestead InstructorThe reason I asked about the Hashimoto’s is that herbs high in iodine like kelp or Irish moss are often recommended by herbalists for thyroid problems. In the case of Hashimoto’s (which accounts for a lot of thyroid cases) increasing iodine will make it worse.

Ashwagandha will stimulate thyroid production so, if you were taking thyroxine or some such and ashwaganda, it could elevate your T4 to higher levels than expected.

I was diagnosed as hypothyroid and was taking Naturethroid. I took Ashwagandha with the Naturethroid for 5 months. Since I added the Ashwagandha, my numbers are elevated. I stopped taking the Ashwagandha (1 month ago) while still taking the Naturethroid to see if it makes a difference in my next blood work. From what you are saying, it could have been the herb that elevated my TSH.
Is it possible to substitute the Ashwagandha for the thyroid meds. I would prefer to be treated with herbs.
Thank you for your insight and information.

Ashwagandha stimulates thyroid production and is in our https://homegrownherbalist.net/products/thyroid-stim
I have some clients that are managing low thyroid issues successfully with a combination of Thyroid Stim and two products form Standard Process Trace Minerals and Thytrophin-PMG.
Everyone is different. Never discontinue medications or combine herbs with medications without consulting with your doctor.
