StudentTopic AuthorHi Hgh friendly robot,
I am captivated by the amazing things that herbs can do. I have a friend with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma (blood cancer)and one of the many herbs that have helped her enormously is Echinacea. Her blood count has improved by 30 points and her specialist cannot understand what is happening.

I am so happy to be here. I retired a year ago. I am living in a 12 by 4 metre cabin in the middle of a cow paddock on a friends property. I completed an online herbal course about 3 years ago. The Home Grown Herbalist Course is absolutely amazing..I wish I had found it years ago ..But things always happen when they are supposed to. I am here now and loving it ..exactly the right time as I now have time to get really serious about herbal medicine and really make it happen.

StudentHi Elizabeth, I’m brand new too, living in Melbourne, Vic (Macedon ranges area) and moving soon to Northern Vic. Our new property has a creek and the soil is very dry and poor compared to what we are used to in the Macedon Ranges, and I’m yet to see many medicinal weeds. I was looking for plantain and marshmallow and milk thistle (which we have lots of here) but haven’t seen any yet… hubby will think I’m completely bonkers if I start digging up weeds to put in pots and take with us 😂

StudentTopic AuthorHi SallyH,
I would dig them up anyway, especially the plantain and marshmallow..they are extremely useful herbs good for so many remedies..it will save buying them later. There are weeds here but nothing useful. I am really looking forward to having a herb garden. But my fence isn’t finished yet…so if i plant any herbs the cows will eat..them. They are a bit naughty and they chewed the rubber lagging on my hot water system. It has been very dry here we finally had about 30mm of very welcome rain after 6 months of no rain. I have been into herbalism for quite a few years so have found out where to get bottles and lids that don’t leak and where to get herbs from ect in Australia as long as its ok to share that..I will have to ask doc if thats Ok. You have found a truly wonderful course. I did an online course based in the UK but no course including the uni ones here are a patch on this one. Enjoy your journey.. the course is so well set up.. I am truly impressed.

StudentHi Liz, thanks for the advice… I grabbed some more big pots today from the pot recycle bin at our local nursery, and I’ll be digging up some weeds to take with me! We’ve got nettle here in one of the horse paddocks too, it’s interesting that it only grows in the one place where the chook pen used to be and where they hang out a lot in this paddock on the other side of the fence. Thinking they like the shaded area, the damp and maybe the chook Poo…
it’ll be interesting to see what wants to grow where when we move. We’ve had a fair bit of rain here this last week, but no sun for about 5 days now… hoping it clears up so we can get our hay cut. Glad you got some rain, the dry is such a killer… I couldn’t live in central Australia or anywhere that is red more than it’s green, although constant wet and flooding isn’t great either… lots of feet issues last year with the horses and sheep because it was so wet here. Ridiculous that it can be so different in one area of the country to another

StudentTopic AuthorSally, I am in Mundubbera which is 200klm from both Gympie and Chinchilla. It is inclined to be dry here but it has been exceptionally dry this year we are still ( 14inches) 350mm under our average yearly rainfall. There literally wasn’t one blade of green grass on the whole property except in my little yard from the grey water. Truly amazing how much the country picks up after rain. I am so glad you are taking some of the precious weeds with you. The only useful thing that I have found here so far is a type of spurge which grows in summer and turns a dark purple/brown colour it has milk when you break a piece off. I believe that it is a very common weed both here and America. It is a cancer remedy that can be rubbed on skin spots. I will take a pic and post it so that you can see what i am talking about. A lady that i knew had a cancer on her leg and a local aboriginal guy told her to use it. The next time she went to the doctor she told him it was gone..he was a little perplexed. I love having other herbalists to share with. Lovely to share with an Aussie as well. Happy to share if you can’t find something you need. I have been into herbs for a good while so have had time to work out where to get things from in Australia for Herbalism. Hope you get your hay cut and your move goes well. Its such an upheaval ..its my first year here..I was on the northside of Brisbane.Born in the country though and so happy to be here where i can see the stars and it is not chaotic.

StudentElizabeth,
I, too, wish I had found it years ago! I was searching and searching for the right natural health genre to get into. I took 2 courses in Nutrition, which I hated because they focused on ILL Health instead of Pro-Health. I also paid quite a lump sum for an Ayurveda class that did some very good advertising, which I thought that might be the one to pave the way for me since I believe so much in NATURAL Remedies and PLANTS. Ayurveda was okay, but they spent a lot of time teaching philosophy and spirituality instead of healing the body; but that may have been included in deeper courses like the practitioner or Ayurvedic Doctor, which I had no interest in continuing that far because my interest is in nature and the plants supporting and healing issues. Then, along comes Dr. Patrick Jones in my feed. I was completely blown away with his wisdom, humor and insights! I studied several YouTube videos he had and now I’m fully entrusting him to teach me this Herbalism, which could be the spot I should have been in from a long time ago!
Anyway, thanks for letting me share a little of my story with you. Good Luck in your course and if you would ever like to chat, I’m sure you’ll see me around. <<hug>>

StudentTopic AuthorThank Goodness for You Tube Linda..that’s how I found doc..He uses the Herbs so thoroughly..I have been interested in Herbs and have seen a lot of different Herb Courses and not even the Uni ones are a patch on Docs experience and what he has to share.
I am happy to chat anytime..And I too like so many just want to be able to help people especially those that there is nothing for. You never stop learning about extra things that particular herbs can do. Happy to share my experiences..I have made quite a few tinctures and salves during my herbal journey. Coffee equipment is great for processing herbs.I use a cheap coffee press for Herbal Oils and Tinctures..they are really great, and easy to clean and you can really put some pressure on the marc to extract as much tincture or oil as possible. I have just purchased a set of 4 mesh coffee filters (Amazon) that I am really pleased with. the mesh is ultra fine great for a final filter. I have also recently been using percolation to extract tinctures. I also found a rack (for baby bottles and teats )that is perfect for draining medicine bottles after sterilizing them. I look forward to chatting with you. Bright Blessings its so great to share with like minds.

Dr. Patrick Jones
Homestead InstructorI really need to go to Australia and do a plant walk…or would it be a plant walkabout? I have a lot of students there and they seem to have all the same good, medicinal British weeds we have here in the US. Funny how that works. :0)
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentTopic AuthorHi Dr Patrick,
I am sure that your Aussie Students would love to join you for a plant walk or walkabout.Western Australia would be amazing when the wildflowers are in Bloom. Plenty of amazing scenery and plants in Australia.I actually do not really have a lot of the common medicinal weeds here in Mundubbera we are 372klm inland from Brisbane. It can been very dry here, so it is quite a different climate.
Although the citrus orchards may have a few more weeds as they irrigate the fruit trees. We have finally had good rain here now though after 6 very dry months.
I have discovered that we have a native plant that the aboriginal tribesman knew about that is commonly known as Gumbi Gumbi (Pittosporum angustifolium). So that is exciting because it is wonderful for cancer. Its an interesting tree because it likes company. The one that was pointed out to me is literally intertwined with a eucalyptus. Lots of small trees nearby as well.
Far to much Mexican Poppy here and I have discovered that we have a native mint.Still sussing out what is here. There are all sorts of things popping up since the rain. But nothing I recognize.
We have an olive grove on the property and I have discovered that Olive leaf salve is amazing for cleaning up inflamed wounds. I have never found anyone else that makes it. I saw your video on Pain Medications on you tube..so that is how i found you. Thoroughly enjoying being a Homestead Academy Student.Thank you for sharing and for everything you do.
I have a friend here that has an elderly mother who has very painful feet (sharp stabbing nerve pain)so bad that she can’t sleep. I gave my friend a bottle of teasel and hops tincture (separate tinctures)and told her to get her mum to spray the teasel and then the hops and rub both in . (I had seen a remedy that you have made with both pine needles and teasel.) It worked fantastically well and the pain has vanished. Thought I would share that with you.I think I will be making a spray that has both teasel and hops together.
Teasel really is amazing and I think there is so much more to learn about it. I haven’t found any wild teasel here but I searched until I found a (Chinese medicine) supplier. It is in the other states though.
I hope you have had a wonderful Christmas full of surprises and blessings with your family. All the best for 2024..i know it will be an amazing year.
Make sure you let all the aussies know if you decide to go on a walkabout in Australia somewhere. Bright Blessings From Australia.

StudentHi Elizabeth! I’ve just joined and am also from Queensland – Brisbane. I’ve been very interested in herbs and how they can help us for many years, but only now getting more serious. Will be good to get some accurate information and put my learnings into practice. Excited to find a fellow Queenslander 🙂
