Does anyone know if any particular varieties of hops are better than others medicinally?  I want to plant & grow some hops this spring, but there are so many varieties and they’re all marketed to brewers.  Go figure.   I live in NH in Zone 4b/5a.

I LOVE that you posted this. I just came in to ask this exact same question! I am in upstate NY, same zone, wanting to grow some medicinal hops.

Tammy & Elizabeth – what you want for hops medicinally is Humulus Lupulus (sp?).  I believe that Doc said that other varieties “might” have some medicinal properties, but the real medicine is in the one I mentioned.  Hope this helps.  Hops tincture topically is the bomb for my terrible back!

Thanks!  I have been looking at Humulus lupulus.  But then there’s H. lupulus  var. Cascade; var. Willamette;  var. Nugget…. and so on.  I was looking for rhizomes, and keep finding all these variants.   I know for some things, the variant doesn’t matter, but for others it does.   Do you know if it matters in this case?
