Hello everyone,
Are there any herbs that can relieve the withdrawal symptoms of gabapentin? The person has anxiety, severe palpitations, stands besides herself. She has reduced the dose of Gabapentin to 200mg daily and wants to continuously taper off the medication (under medical supervision). I thought that an adaptogen such as Eleutheroccocus senticosus could bring relief. Are there herbs that regulate Gaba production again?
Background: the woman (42 years old) I am writing about had brain surgery in 2024. They removed a neurinoma or schwannoma (a benign brain tumor). Because of the nerve pain after the operation, she was prescribed gabapentin.
Thanks for your answers and ideas, Corinne

if it’s nerve pain, would teasel tincture work? or would it interfere with any other pharmaceuticals she may be on?

Dear Lisa, thank you for your quick reply/idea. After the operation she had severe nerve pain (along the trigeminal nerve). I then gave her the teasel tincture and she used also Geranium robertianum topicaly and that worked really really well. The nerve pain actually disappeared. Unbelievable when you think that part of her neck muscle had been removed. Teasel rocks!
Now it’s time to phase out the Gabapetin that she is unfortunately still taking. Due to the reduction of the Gabapetin she has anxiety, panic attacks and a confusion in the hormone system, severe palpitations and just stands besides herself. I thought maybe there is something specific that could rebalance the hormone system or specifically the Gaba metabolism?
thanks for your inspiration, Corinne

This is my personal journey to stopping the gabapentin. Please discuss with doctor. I would like to say i have been drinking a tea made out of Holy basil, oat straw & roses recently and has helped tremendously for lifes stress. I would also like to add that I had been on a super strong dose of gabapentin (along with several other medications) for 4 years. I had an auto accident that seriously messed up my neck. I did taper off slowly but the last sets of 300mg was the hardest for my body and brain to come off of. Remember the original design of gabapentin was not for nerves but for seizures. I personally took the teasel tincture internally 3x daily. I got up to around 18 drops 3x daily for just shy of 2 weeks. i also started taking nature walks and drinking a lot of mexican mint marigold tea(tagetes lucida) in the evening before bed. this helped me and my system slowly wean off the meds.
