StudentI have been asked what if any herbs will help the body fight HPV and work to help prevent cervical cancer in the future. I’ve done some research and found that Turkey Tail Mushroom and Reishi are both good antivirals and in one text, I read they were used to treat HPV. I am assuming that the treatments were with oral administration but I got to thinking….what if a tea was made and used as a douche (Doc taught me a few years ago that when you get to thinking, just maybe you might come on to something). I searched for a topic on HPV but doesn’t look like there is one so I was hoping that maybe Doc or Mrs Doc may be able to give me some suggestions. I use Chaga for a great deal of things and thought maybe it may do well here.
Thanks in advance! Laura

StudentSome plants that have that white sap in the stems, like dandelion and wild prickly lettuce, act on the hpv also. The white stuff is the active agent, especially when applied topically to skin warts. I’m not a doctor, nevermind a gyno, but your idea of a cervical wash sounds plausible to me. The only concern I would have is disrupting the delicate balance of vaginal flora through repeated, frequent douching, which could cause an overgrowth of the wrong kinds of flora.

Homestead InstructorBoth reishi and turkey tail have good research showing effects against HPV. Dandelion does too internally. Dandelion works well topically for regular skin warts (also a papilloma virus). Immune stimulation with Echinacea, Astragalus etc… has good research as well.
They’ve also found that cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower inhibit HPV.
I’m working on some lessons right now on specific herb interactions with specific bacteria species and specific virus types. There’s been some really interesting research and it needs to be covered better for herb practitioners so they know what tool to grab for which bug. It probably won’t be done until after the holidays. I have several new lesson irons in the fire right now.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I’d like to bump up this post from Oct. 22 and ask Doc if the lesson you mentioned for specific virus is up somewhere yet.
I’ve also run into the hpv questions and am wondering if some other items like perhaps olive leaf and the hrpze formulas would also be helpful or if they are more related to herpes rather than the hpv.

StudentAdding: The situation I’m working with has a wart in the mouth on the gum just under one of the molars as well as one genital. I’m particularly interested in what to recommend for the mouth.

StudentTopic AuthorAdditionally, I have recently read that apple cider vinegar applied directly to the lesion may help….If so, I would think this may be an option for oral lesions.
Thanks for keeping this thread going! I really think it’s important.
