Hello Friends!!
I’m new here! I love growing, foraging & learning all things plants!! I would love some ideas on new herbs to grow through the winter- indoors & or cold frame. We are currently building a greenhouse out of refurbished bricks, windows & doors.
Perhaps ideas of plants with a shorter maturity window, cold hardy….
Some of thePlants I currently have growing;
Lemon Balm, wild Purslane, wild Mullein, Calendula (late start- no flowers yet), yarrow, many varieties of basil, spearmint, many varieties of American elderberry, oregano, sage, thyme, peppermint…
My season will be hitting colder weather within the next 6-8weeks.
Thank you for sharing some of your favorites that you may have had success with indoors/ over wintering!

Welcome Nan!
Sounds like a cool project you have going on. You already have everything I would grow, maybe throw in some Comfrey. Growing it in a greenhouse would keep it from establishing itself wherever you plant it for the rest of the lifetime of the planet (seriously, the roots can go down 30 feet and will regrow from root, only put it in the ground where you want it to be forever haha)

what a great project, I’m in AR and working on what i can grow naturally in the area…however i couldn’t leave all my beloved ALOE plants in CA when i moved so i am doing the over winter migration. hope you have great success in your project. i find the most valuable herbs in my garden are the ones i use most. Lemon Balm and cayenne pepper are my rockstars…. however my grandsone love catnip and lemongrass ( which ticks hate so that’s good)
