StudentOur four year old stallion stepped on a glass bottle and cut his hoof right where the hair meets the hoof. My dad stopped the bleeding with self-adhering vet wrap. We gave him penicillin for a week and then switched him to sulfa because the infection didn’t improve. After a week on sulfa-trimethoprim he appears to be getting better, but his hoof is still swollen. The stallion appears to have no pain and is bearing full weight on the hoof. We ran out of sulfa this morning, and the vet is a 6 hour trip.
What would you recommend ?

Homestead InstructorAntibiotic herbs and immune support herbs. The easy buttons would be INFXN BugBuster and Immunity Support. 1 TBSP of each 2-3 times daily.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentTopic AuthorHi, I just saw your reply. Our stallion is doing much better, my sister and I came up with a wound spray for him and it really is working very well hear is what we used.
1 1/3 cup chamomile tea\2 Tbsp. fresh chamomile for tea
2/3 cup onion juice
2Tbsp. Chile Paquin crushed
A large handful of fresh plantain chopped
we made the above ingredients into a cold infusion which we left in the refrigerator for a day.
Than we diluted 3Tbsp. in 1 pint of water and used that to spray his foot 2-3 times a day.
We are continuing to do that 2 times a day.
Now that there is no open wound we have added about 1/4 of a tp. of hounds tongue tincture to the mix and he is doing great.2 users thanked author for this post.
