Hi every one. Can anyone please help me. İ am making some Black walnut tincture, but also have made a decoction of black walnut leaves. What i would like to know is which is better a compress on (face for rosea acne) face of the decoction or to actually take the decoction internally, which is more effective. Do they both do the same job taken internally or externally. Also while i am still in the process of making my tincture , i have opened the jar a few times, İ read somewhere that this destroys the potency, is this true and should i throw it away or is it still good. Thank you in advance..

Homestead InstructorTopically would probably be most effective for an acne issue.
I’d also recommend internally some burdock and yellow dock plus Echinacea.

Homestead InstructorBy the way, open your tinctures all you want. Doesn’t change a thing.

Thank you for your reply. İ was thinking of using Black walnut because i have been reserching and i think it may be due to a fungus all the symtoms seems as such.İf it is due to a fungus would appllying topically still get into the body and do its job, because i have been reading up on this subject and it seems that the skin soaks up the tincture or what ever and gets into the blood stream and does its job. What is your view on this??? Also concerning the opening of the tincture my Black Walnut i read that opening it gets air into the bottle and it spoils and turns black which it has, is it still alright if it is black and not green ?? Thank you so much. İ am interested in learning about herbs , so İ hope İ am not a PEST and asking too many questions…..

Lots of herbal remedies are applied externally that are absorbed and delivered to their desired location. Some menstrums are better at this than others. Since alcohol can be absorbed through the skin it is particularly good at this and fast too. Oils work as well, but are a bit slower.
Patrick should post a new thread with his early tincture processing experience some time that illustrates this.

For internal needs, internal applications will typically be more effective than external ones. If you suspect you have an internal fungal/yeast infection, you might consider bee balm internally.

Well to make a long story short, it’s a good idea to wear rubber gloves when pressing valerian (or anything else) with your hands. LOL
