Hi! I listened to your podcast on Herb Mentor Radio. I’m so glad I found a resource to help with my questions. Thank you for the work that you do!

My friend’s Pomeranian Chihuahua has been diagnosed with IVDD. Last night, she had a particularly bad episode that resulted in a seizure and loss of movement in her back legs. She went to the emergency room and is walking again today. My friend is going to do the acupuncture that the doctor recommended but I was wondering what herbs she could also incorporate.

I currently study with Thomas Easley and I remember in class them mentioning mullein to help realign the back. Is mullein safe to use in dogs? And what is the recommended dose? Would you suggest this?

I’m up for any and all recommendations and ideas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

        Thanks,

        Dev

I’m not a vet, but I can assure you that mullein is safe for dogs. 🙂 However, I’m only familiar with mullein as a respiratory support herb, and to soothe mucus membranes. I have not heard of its use in spinal problems. It will be interesting to hear what Patrick comes back with.

If you’re going to use mullein for backs, you need the root rather than the leaf.

            We have it here:

The https://homegrownherbalist.net/products/joint-formula may also help with the inflammation. Acupuncture may also be helpful. If she’s as bad as she sounds, surgery may be the best option.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
