StudentDoes anyone have experience dealing with this issue and with any success?
Things to try herbs that may help?
Starting with oregano leaf and echinacea water and vinegar clean of whole coop dishes and yard with all new bedding. ACV spritz on food.
Viral? Bacterial? is a symptom of either?
Any help much appreciated.

Homestead InstructorLash eggs aren’t actually eggs. It’s actually the sloughed lining of the oviduct and pus material from a infection in the reproductive tract. Commercial laying operations cull birds that lay lash eggs because even if they recover, they often don’t produce very well afterward.
It’s usually caused by a bacterial infection but can be viral as well. I’ve never treated it or seen in it my own birds.
Some possibilities to consider:
Raw garlic is good too if you can get the girls to eat it.

StudentTopic AuthorThank you for your reply.
Sounds like I pretty much did what your reply said. Ya they wouldn’t eat the garlic greens I also recommended. Garlic is my go to for infections. So cheap and always available and potent.
For anyone who has or gets a lash egg: I suggested they treat the coop and birds for illness with antibiotic herbs, a super clean out and vinegar spray of everything.
She is back to laying and now has these ginormous eggs everyday.
I likened it to human snot and mucous(?). Figured that’s how chickens get crap out of their system. BTW this hen is the battery bird breed (tho was never a battery bird). small birds laying extra large eggs; wonder if that plays a part…..interesting.
The hens freaked out at the lash egg, grabbed it from the person and ate it up with gusto so much the lady grossed out couldn’t eat for a week and gave me her birds coop and all. 🙂 Win for me. I did wait a month before bringing them over for quaranteen. They also now are on an organic feed and bugs with lots of deep mulch to garden prep for me.

Homestead InstructorI’ve heard some folks have luck putting garlic into the water and that the birds will sometimes drink it OK if it’s changed daily.
Glad the ol’ girl is feeling better.
