Hi to all you wonderful people! I am a new student posting her first forum so please help me out if I am doing this incorrectly. Lemon Balm is a wonderful plant as many of the plants are in the mint family. I have been using the plant to sooth and calm the nerve system of my son and it does help him. As a few of the other plants can harm if used too long of a time. Can Lemon Balm harm ones system if used for a length of time and everyday?

Welcome Tammie.  I do not know the answer to your question, so am interested in what others say.  I will say that I absolutely love lemon balm and have used it in many preparations for years.

Thank you Cerulean! It truly is wonderful to meet you. I am so happy to hear that you love Lemon Balm. What other ways do you use the herb?

Welcome Tammie! I don’t know of any long term hazards with Lemon Balm, however it’s always a good idea to take a day off every week or two for your body to rest

Hello. Lemon balm can interfere with the thyroid hormones when taken long term. I’m not sure that this is common, but it’s good to be aware of if someone already has thyroid issues or is on medication for the thyroid. Hope that this is helpful.

I’m a new student making my first reply.  I use lemon balm in my tea regularly before bed so I’m glad to see your question and the replies to it!

The only way I have used lemon balm is to bite a leaf several times and then put the leave on a mosquito bite. Last summer my daughter made a lemon balm salve and uses that for mosquito bites.

I didn’t know there were other uses for lemon balm.  Being a new student in the herbal school, I have a lot to learn!!

As with any long term herb, taking a day off every week or two is a good practice. Lemon balm is quite safe. It can lower thyroid output a bit but I don’t thi9n it’s much of an issue unless thyroid is already low (and you aren’t taking a pill for it already).
