Lemon balm taste?

I purchased some organic lemon balm tea to try for the first time and wonder if I got a mislabeled product. To me, this tastes like a mild black tea. I expected lemony flavor. Can anyone tell me if lemon balm is supposed to taste like this?

Hi Lisa,

Sorry to hear that the lemon balm tea that you purchased doesn’t taste lemony.

Lemon balm does have a lemony flavor. Nothing that tastes like mild black tea in my opinion.

I should note that I haven’t ever purchased lemon balm tea. It’s one of the herbs that I have grown for several years.

I plan to plant some seeds in my garden. Probably too late now…how fast  will it take to grow a bit of it? I’m in SC, so I have a couple of months before first frost.

Hey Lisa, it’s been my experience that lemon balm has a lemony taste only when fresh.  I cannot taste any lemon in it once it’s been dried.
