I have a old fashioned purple lilac bush in my yard. Does it have any medicinal use or does it just smell good? I have never seen anything saying it is one way or the other

I haven’t heard of any medicinal benefits, but I live in the Lilac city, so it would be great to find out if they had some!

I can only tell you that lilac leaf tea is seriously nasty tasting!

I have a lilac bush as well and love the fragrance.  I’m bummed to hear that this might be all it is good for.  Thanks for asking the question!

Traditional Chinese medicine uses lilac oil as an ingredient for classic U-I oil, to help disperse bruising and stiffness, but I haven’t found the specific reason it is included yet.  Lilac scent is so volatile, it’s a process to make the oil since the flowers have to be strained and replaced with new ones every day for several days.
