I understand that lobelia can make you puke. Are the asthma formulas on the Homegrown Herbalist shop page going to have that effect, or is there not enough to elicit that response?

Doc is super experienced and careful with his formulas, and does incorporate certain safeguards.  So for example, he has mentioned in a few lessons that we should make our lobelia tincture a 1:10 ratio, as opposed to the usual 1:5.  And/or only 1/2 ratio of lobelia in proportion to the other herbs you might include.  Does that make sense?

Yes, it does, thank you. I was just curious as to whether or not eating even a little bit would still make you throw up, but it sounds like you have to eat a certain amount before that happens.

Yes, the vomiting is actually a safeguard built into the plant itself, to prevent one from overdosing, because it is both toxic (in excessive quantities), and medicinal in minimal quantities.  But Doc has also mentioned somewhere, that if you were to suppress and override the urge to vomit, or continue taking doses of lobelia in spite of the vomiting, that it would indeed be fatal.  But if taken correctly and in small doses, vomiting does NOT occur.

When Lobelia is combined in a formula and that formula is taken at correct doses, it’ll never cause puking.

If taken as a simple in incorrect doses it’s much easier to get pukey.

The Native American’s called lobelia puke weed because taking too much would induce vomiting.  I love that plants are created with intelligence and safety built right into them.  I’ve used lobelia for years in many situations and have never worried about it being dangerous, because if I’m unwise and take too much, nature will remind me to take less.

Hi. I am brand new here, so pardon my error if this is not how I post my first post:

To temporarily help stop a really bad cough (such as with bronchitis) for a few hours so one can get some sleep-

would a dose of the NoMospazms formula, given that it has the lobelia in it, help? The black cohosh should help too, I would think.

                    Thank you!
