If I am planning on making a tincture that has lobelia and other herbs in it, is a 1:5 ratio ok. I see Doc says he does lobelia with a 1:10 ratio. Does the lobelia need tincture separately, then added to the other tincture?

Hi AB, That is a great question. I had the same thought when I was making a formula containing Lobelia too. When I back tracked on Lobelia, Doc said ideally he would use 3 parts vinegar and 7 parts hooch with 1 part Lobelia which also made me wonder so I will follow this post for the final answer 🙂 What I decided to do is keep to the formula as it was in a group already, therefore diluted in concentration by the other herbs. My tincture is still macerating so I will be interested to see what comes from this inquiry. Thanks for asking.

For single-herb tinctures of Lobelia, 1:10 is a good idea as it gives wider safety margins. If Lobelia is one of several herbs in a formula tincture, it’s dilute enough that I no longer worry about that and just do the formula 1:5.
