StudentI have made tinctures prior to finding this class, so I learned of lobelia for asthma help and we have 4 asthmatics I was making a new batch of tincture for. I did not learn enough about lobelia before I started the tinctures and now learned that added too much lobelia (1:5 ratio). I don’t want the puke side of this wonderful herb…can I just use more vodka to dilute the ratio without affecting the tincture?

StudentYeah you could do that while its macerating and be just fine. I’m impressed you were able to get the vodka to completely cover the lobelia at a 1:5 ratio though. If you press it and it is still too strong though, I would just recommend diluting it with some water

StudentDoc states using both apple cider vinegar AND hooch. I may be off, but I believe (without hunting for the answer at this moment) that ratio is 7 parts hooch and 3 parts ACV ( but please look it up before making it). He says that Lobelia is unique in the need for the ACV, and 1:5 probably will have you hurling!

You can do it with just vodka as well but the 1:10 is safer than a 1:5 ratio. As Greg said, Just add some booze.

StudentSo Doc, if I am making it for the first time ever – with the ACV or hooch only? Confused since you mentioned the ACV in the lesson…

StudentThe main reason I am confused is that the lobelia that I purchased from Doc’s herb shop is made (according to the label) as 1:5 with 40% alcohol. I needed to make some today, wish I knew for sure which way to go…
