Making infused oil for salve/lotion lesson #6, and I decided to try out my sous vide (similar to double boiler with with temperature control) so I can regulate the temperature. I am guessing that 120 degrees will not be high enough (i wish to save the oil and not get any mold). What do you all think would be a good temperature range to aim for? Thanks so much. This is fun.
I am just starting to make infused oils and have done some without heating at all. I am always left wondering if any of the medicinal properties have infused into the oil. Often recipes I’ve used encourage a temperature of not higher than 100 to preserve the medicinal properties. My understanding is that the addition of vitamin E oil helps preserve the oil more than temperature does. Would love to have others reply and share their knowledge and experience!
