Making Valerian Tincture from powder

I have made Valerian tincture from pieces of root before, but just noticed that my new bag is in powder form.  Are there any recommendations for how many parts of powder to the vodka?  I would assume its a little different?

Hi Beth,

There’s no difference whether you’re using herbs that are cut and sifted, or powdered. 🙂

1 part herb, 5 parts alcohol by weight (ratio 1:5).

Example, 50g of Valerian root to 250g of vodka.

Certain herbs though soak up more than others, so the main thing is you want to make sure that all of the herb is covered by the vodka

Thank you Gineva and Greg!  I appreciate the input.  As a new student, I hadn’t gotten to the lessons on making tinctures yet.  I think I’ll skip ahead and learn more on that topic!
