Hello.  I am a new student and am enjoying this course very much!  I have discovered that I have huge amounts of mallow (Malva neglecta) growing all over my farm.  In the slides for the upper digestive tract, it indicates that there are no contraindications to mallow, however, I have read that mallow can be a nitrate accumulator and cause nitrate and oxalate poisoning.  What are your thoughts on this and is this possible with the plant growing in the wild?

        Thank you!

        Linda

Don’t harvest herbs near farmers’ fields or in irrigation ditches.

Have a look at this lesson for tips on how and where to harvest to avoid toxicity.

If one is prone to kidney stones oxalates can be an issue.  Lots and lots of good plants contain them. As long as they aren’t consumed in high doses or long term, its not an issue.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
