Can you use marshmallow, mallow, and hollyhock interchangeably for bites and tissue that is going gangrene? Or is marshmallow better?

          Hi Megan,

Thank you for this question.  As a new student, I don’t know the answer, but would love to find out.

I’ve used both marshmallow and mallow for interchangeably on serious pre-gangrene cases. I haven’t tried the hollyhock because I always have the other two within reach. If it’s all I had, I’d sure use it. Make sure to harvest hollyhock root in the fall of the first year or spring of the second because it’s a biennial. The other two are perennial (which is the other reason I prefer them).

Can the roots be harvested in summer when the plant is green or should I wait till it goes dormant?

As with most roots, they’ll be more potent in the fall or early spring. But they still work during the summer.
