I’ve read that marshmallow root can have a negative affect on someone with diabetes.  Is it ok to take in small doses for some of the benefits?

        Thanks

Marhsmallow’s mucilage can bind sugars in the gut and therefore slow down and decrease absorptio which can lower blood sugars a tad. If one is already taking medications to lower blood sugar, they might get lower than you want. If a diabeti were taking marshmallow, It’d be a good idea to monitor blood sugars.

The mucilage in marshmallow can also bind drugs in the gut and decrease absorption. So if taking oral meds, dont’ take marshmallow within an hour or two on either side of the dose.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
