Medicinal preference in elderberries

So we have the European elderberry S. nigra, and the American elderberry S. canadensis.

Which of these has the better medicinal usage?

In addition, I’m thinking of growing some small varieties in large pots due to my soil situation. There is a dwarf elderberry but if it’s inferior medicinally, no thanks.

Any help out there?
