        Hi Good Learners at HGH,

I’m wondering if anyone else knows if: Mentzelia Decapetala, Ten-Petal Blazing Star

has any medicinal properties. I looked it up in a few different places but there’s really nothing I can find out there.

The leaves feel like sandpaper and apparently they will trap some bugs.  They seem to enjoy no water, un-fertile ground; actually terribly deserted ground and dry hot days.

The flowers are white, so very beautiful almost holly leaf shaped.  The leaves are a beautiful light green.  There isn’t any sap when you cut it.  The stem is a light reddish brown and it is triangular.  Beautiful, interesting specimen.

I’m wondering, (because it is beautiful) if it has astringent properties or other cosmetic uses within.  I thought for sure I would see all kinds of medicinal uses for it because it stands out in the hot, dry summer days of the western US.  A real treat to behold though, it’s not as fun to touch, kind of like touching a cats tongue, lol.

Native Americans used it some for demulcent and emollient applications. It has almost no research.

Usually if you look up a plant and find little or nothing it’s because it isn’t that great. Peple have been using herbs for a really long time. Most of the really good ones have gotten some press in that time

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
