Hello, all!
Thank you in advance for your insight. This forum has been so helpful. 🙂 I have three family milk cows who are all excellent calves, but from time to time issues pop up. One of my cows, Buttercup, calved last Friday with no issues, but still has not passed the placenta (as evidenced by string of fetal tissue still hanging from her backside). She has had a slightly decreased appetite, and her milk has been slow coming in as well. For reference she is a Dexter/Jersey cross, 7 years old. It is not uncommon for her milk to come in a little late, but her energy as been a little below normal. She is alert with no signs of infection, and her appetite and water consumption is increasing. I’d welcome any input on herbs that would help the placenta pass. I have given her sauerkraut (rumen boost), garlic (immune), calendula (emmenagogue), and raspberry canes. We also have motherwort available, but I was having trouble finding whether it is safe during lactation for the calf.
Thanks again!
Emily
