StudentHello everyone! I just recently had triplets (all three girls 🥰) And now I’m just starting with this school! So excited!! In fact this is my first post… (one quiz in the bag 😉). Anyways, I have been mostly breastfeeding them with the occasional bottle (of my pumped breastmilk) but feel like I might be loosing my supply… Are there any herbal teas I could start drinking that would help with this?

StudentThe herbs written on my notecard are: blessed thistle, vervain, fennel, cumin, anise seed, and fenugreek. Noted that vervain is also a relaxant so not sure how sedating it is. Fennel also helps with gas discomfort/colic. I’m fairly new at this so don’t just take my word for it. ..

StudentWelcome to the school Mykianne and congrats on the new babies! All of the herbs Olivia mentioned are good for stimulating milk supply, look for anything labeled as a Galactagogue. It just so happens that Doc has two tinctures on the site for new moms, the Lactation Support tincture and the Mellow Mommy tincture. I tried linking to them on the store page but it isn’t allowing me to for some reason.
My wife used the Mellow Mommy after the birth of our son and that helped her out a good bit. Oh and be sure to logged in to your account on the herb website to get your student discount, it makes the tinctures $15 instead of $20!

StudentDouble check on the vervain…. now I’m questioning myself if its safe for pregnancy or lactation or not. I’d wait for feedback from Doc to be sure.. See I’m new at this:)

StudentOn Doc’s Pregnancy and Lactation list, Blue Vervain is listed as Unknown for use during lactation and Not Safe during pregnancy. Unfortunately Verbena Officinalis is not on the list.
But in the end, I would just go ahead and buy the Lactation Support tincture from the shop, its got Blessed Thistle and Fenugreek in it and it’s already made, just gotta buy it and wait for it to arrive. I’m sure with new triplets, time is spread pretty thin as it is.

StudentOh my heavens! congratulations! I just started this course as well! I’m currently breast feeding my 5 almost 6 month old son. I ordered some fenugreek and blessed thistle to increase my milk supply.
I won’t have time to make a tincture from them, so I’m wondering, Doc, if should I just make a daily tea? or bi-daily? or blend it in smoothies? or how would you suggest I get this in my system? 🙂

Homestead InstructorFenugreek ad blessed thistle are my favorites.1 rounded tsp of each powder is the dose. I’d do it 2-3 times daily. Doesn’t matter much how you get it into your body. Tea, smoothie, yogurt, applesauce etc…
We also have this formula:Also, major players in milk supply are stress levels, good nutrition and sufficient water intake. And, of course, it’s a good idea to avoid astringent herbs like sage and parsley which will dry you up.Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentI’m sure you have this figured out already, but I personally have been using verbena to help with my nervous system postpartum. I have a fairly sensitive nervous system so having a baby completely threw me off.
Downside for me was that I don’t NEED help with milk supply but it increases my milk supply… I now take it alongside lymph draining herbs to help prevent the clogged ducts the verbena was causing and I limit use to when I just REALLY need some nerve support. I had made a large batch of Texas Prairie Verbena (Glandularia bipinnatifida) last Spring while I was pregnant in anticipation of using it during lactation 🙂
It was my favorite thing to give to all my friends having babies last year (which was a lot!) and a few of them have benefited from it as well!

I’d treat all the Verbena species the same with regards to safety questions.
