        DOC JONES,

I am wondering about mixing powdered herbs. In your formula kits… are the herbs mixed pretty much 1:1? Also how do you mix them so they are homogenous? Do you use a sifter?

Also I am wondering how you don’t end up with serious herbal dust in the face… Wear a mask?

        Thanks for your time 🙂

Personally, I try to NOT mix my herbs until I need them UNLESS it is a formula I find I am going through quickly. This allows me to customize my formulations as I go. We use muscle testing to do that.

If you mix them as you go, then when you put them in your water or other liquid to take they will get mixed there or in your body.

This applies to dry or tinctured herbs.

            Hi Tammy,

A good basic “formula” for making formulas is as follows:

6-8 parts of the main herb (or combination of herbs) that will address the issue

1 part demulcent herb (marshmallow, slippery elm, licorice etc…) to smooth things out

1 part antispasmodic (lobelia, valerian, crampbark…) to reduce tension and improve absorption

1 part stimulant (cayenne, ginger, peppermint etc…)

I mix dry herbs by putting them in a jar (no more than half full) and shaking enthusiastically. You can get large pickle jars at costco (or you local deli/restaurant).

Then I use a canning funnel to transfer the herbs to another jar for storage. Put a label on the jar (not the lid!) of what’s in it and the date.

            Patrick

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
