StudentHello, new student and new to herbal world. Â I have a number of goats on our farm and I am looking to move away from using commercial dewormers. Â What some successful blends people have been using to treat their goats?

StudentWe use Molly’s Herbals deworming formulas for our goats, and keep them on a regular schedule. It has worked very well for us, and I only use conventional wormers on very severe cases.

StudentI tried Molly’s Herbals for deworming my sheep. They literally spit out the honey and molasses treat I made. It was funny and heart breaking at the same time. I had to use a drenching syringe.

StudentI know how you feel Rebecca 🙂 My goats did the same. I ended up having to drench them as well although they didn’t like the syringe either ( I ended up with more dewormer on myself then in their mouths) so I ended up making my own dewormer blend and now I just sprinkle it on their feed and they gobble it up ! I believe they love some of the herbs that I put in that Mollie’s didn’t have in theirs.

StudentWe have Brazilian Pepper trees which are naturally anti-parasitic. I make sure they have access to the trees so they can help themselves.

StudentHello Mr. Jones,
I’m a new student and have just started the lessons. The herbal lingo lesson you mentioned the herbal dewormers don’t work as well as chemical. It that true in the goat world too or were you talking just for dog heart worms. I bought some wormwood, I don’t know what kind, with the hope of feeding it to goat to kills worms. I took some cuttings and started several more plants with the idea to grow a “Wormwood Brigade” so I could keep a pot of it in the goats pen 24/7 so they could self medicate. Would that be good idea or a waste of time?
Thank you!

StudentHello I am a new student 🙂 I currently have a small group of Nubian milk goats and have enjoyed raising them. I used to do Mollie’s Herbals but decided to start making a homemade dewormer myself that I give to my goats every 6 weeks. I add wormwood and black walnut to there dewormer blend except when they are pregnant as it can cause abortion. Some herbs that I have found useful in their dewormer is garlic powder, cayenne, thyme, and mustard powder. The cayenne is also useful in the winter to keep your goats warm. I don’t use a synthetic dewormer because animals eventually grow immune to it and it is not a healthy choice. Another really helpful point is that female goats that have just kidded are more prone to getting worms.
Thanks,
Elizabeth Stiff

StudentHello. New student completing my first assignment to go to the student forum and create a post. I have a herd of 50 dairy goats. I have been using a herbal dewormer once weekly for about 5 years now. It includes wormwood, fennel, cascara sagrada, gentain and psylium. Never had a goat refuse to eat it just sprinkled on top of regular grain. Safe for pregnant and lactating goats. Using it on a regular basis drastically reduces my need to use chemical dewormers.

How is your formula safe for pregnant and lactating goats? Cascara sagrada, gentian and wormwood are all unsafe during pregnancy and lactation, and fennel is only safe during lactation. So how can the formula be safe if the components are not safe?
