I have a horse that was just diagnosed with classic navicular disease. Are there any herbal remedies you would recommend? Basically my vet said that we can put a wedge pad under his shoes and it will hopefully help delay the effects. But I was wondering if there is any way to stop it or even help repair his navicular bone.

Give Mickey a call at Silver Lining Herbs. He’s very good with horse stuff. Tell him I said “hi”.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I know this is a very late reply, but I thought it may be worth responding anyhow just in case it is able to help someone out there who comes across this thread. Essentially I’m just going to give links instead of spending a lot of time typing. Everything I would say is better said through the articles/links that I’m going to share. The first bit of information isn’t on specific herbs, but it’s all about creating the proper heel first landings which are needed for the proper function of the horses hoof. And knowing this information helps with the use of the herbs, which I mention a little bit lower.

A couple other herbs that are coming to mind are horsetail and nettles. Those two in combination supply the building blocks needed to create connective and structural tissue. Oatstraw and dandelion would be worth adding to the list as well, along with kelp. I would use all of those herbs to help rebuild bone and connective tissue. There are probably a few others, but those would be a good start. Comfrey, Echinacea, Gotu Kola, Horsetail, Nettles, Oatstraw, Dandelion, Kelp….that would make a nice formula. I’ve used all of these herbs for my horses.

Understanding hoof function as well as using herbs would be very beneficial things to know to help navicular horses return to a functioning and fulfilling life.

Are there any new updates to this thread?

There are two mares in the barn where I board my gelding Cigar with Navicular. Both are on Isoxsuprine HCL to make them more comfortable. The FDA is removing Isox from the market. Any suggestions on what might help?
