StudentI fell two different times in 2020 where my upper back and upper neck/base of head caught the brunt of the weight six week apart. Since then, any seasonal allergies causes horrible pain in in the base of my head/neck area specifically on the left side
I tried the muscle testing Doc mentioned in one of the modules and ending up making a tea with peppermint, valerian, and nettle. When I tell you within an hour I could move my head with zero pain, I honestly could have cried from the relief. I know peppermint help with allergies and inflammation and valerian is good for pain relief. How did the nettle help? I’m still new to the course so I’m not 100% about the why’s of everything just yet

StudentCurrently dealing with some neck issues and am looking for the best herbs to use for inflammation & pain to avoid needing to use Ibuprofen and a muscle relaxant. I have used Peppermint & Eucalyptus Essential oils (combo is anti-inflammatory & analgesic) which helps but if I move in a wrong position it returns. Also use Argan oil which helps too. I will look for the formula and try it out. I have also eaten cucumbers to help with inflammation. Most of the time it is very helpful.
Does anyone know of herbs or foods that can help: Disc desiccation – gradual dehydration of disc results from replacement of hydrophilic
glycosaminoglycans within the nucleus pulposus with fibrocartilage
Facet joint arthropathy – a degenerative disease that effects joints of spine and breakdown of
cartilage on those joints
Cervical spondylosis – results in bone spurs
Disc-osteophyte complex – disc protrusion and/or osteophytes resulting in narrowing of cervical canal
compresses intervertebral discs and puts pressure on nerve roots and/or spinal cord
Spinal stenosis – spaces in spine narrow & create pressure on spinal cord and nerve roots
most common cause osteoarthritis
Just got the radiologist results from my MRI – waiting for my Dr. appointment but want to begin working on it before I go. I’ve been pain free for almost a week now and don’t want to go back to that. Anything I can do to minimize the problems would be very appreciated.

StudentWell, I was pain free but neck and shoulder pain returned last night! Peppermint & eucalyptus minimized it enough to sleep

Dr. Patrick Jones
Homestead InstructorWe never talk about it much (because dandelion is so good at other things) but it does have good antihistamine and anti-inflammatory properties. :0)
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentI’ve been searching for the formula mentioned above. Where can I find it? Is the valerian part roots? Does it have a name? Is it equal amounts?

if you’re talking about the one I used, yes it’s valerian root.
I did 1 tbsp dandelion, 2 tsp peppermint, and half a tsp of valerian root.
The first time I tried the tea was midday and it didn’t leave me feeling drowsy at all. The back of my neck felt warm and tingly and I was able to get through several hours before drinking that tea again before bed. Hope it helps you

StudentThank you for the recipe. Is the dandelion flowers, leaves or roots? Is this a good time for digging valerian roots?, they are flowering right now. I expect the peppermint is leaves. I’ll let you know how it works for me. It hurt most of the time for weeks but it has not been hurting badly for quite a bit.

StudentTopic Authorsorry I’m just now answering you! hectic week.
the dandelion is leaves and valerian the roots. I actually haven’t been able to plant anything in my own garden yet. This summer has been brutal and everything is dying so I actually bought those herbs dried in a local vitamin store. Hope it helps you!

StudentWanted to update: Peppermint/Eucalyptus cream have kept pain away.
I haven’t made your tea recipe yet but after taking the making lotion class, I put together a lotion with St.John’s Wort infused olive oil and for the added fluid I used a cayenne pepper tea. It’s been interesting. I used it on the back of my neck if there was any indication of even slight discomfort – usually when I laid down for the night. So far it’s been great! I picked StJohn’s wort because part of the problem has to do with pressure on the nerve roots. I work at keeping inflammation down so I don’t need to use it every night. How are you doing?

StudentTopic AuthorI’m so happy you’ve found something that helps! The combo of peppermint and eucalyptus sounds so wonderful. I’ve been very interested in using cayenne as well. I just haven’t braves it yet.
The tea still helps, praise God! I also found a homeopathic allergy spray specifically for cedar and other local allergens here and it’s helped tremendously
