Hello everyone-I need some help for my son. He can not swallow vitamin and mineral supplements and is starting to show signs of deficiencies. So I thought that maybe combining some of the herbs would allow him to get it into his system. He is having pain in his muscles that is lasting for weeks at a time. Can anyone suggest what herbs I could combine to provide him with some well-rounded nutrients, please? He has MTHFR  which causes him problems with B vitamins especially and is not able to detox at a normal rate either. We have been dealing with his severe issues for over 25 years. It all started 4 months after he had a round of vaccines! The conventional docs and their protocols only made it worse for him. He also has systemic candida  (and probably parasites too-I have seen them under the microscope.) and gets really sick if he starts to detox too fast. It truly has been a hell of a life for him. Thank you for all your responses  and help!

Hi Suzanne,    I’m really saddened to hear of your son’s struggles and I hope what I can share will help. First, I’m aware of a wonderful nurse who shares lots of great info on all things bad about big pharm and her personal struggles with health/meds during her lifetime on her own website/blog. She has a very informative article on this topic; her name is Jacqueline of Deep Roots at Home. (maybe you can find her as we can’t share links here.) She shares that you really should see a naturopath or functional doctor to get your supplements doses down correctly as everyone is different but using a methol-folate product to support proper detoxification brings things closer to normal. A big portion of the article is on Folate as this genetic deficiency prevents the body from properly using folic acid but it takes more than real folate to dial back the symptoms/issues.

If you still want to try making your own supplements, Doc has numerous plant talks were he teaches that Oak straw, Nettles, and other herbs are highly nutritive. I specifically remember Marjorie Wildcraft in a video interview with Doc talking about making her own daily nutritive infusion each night to allow it to cold infuse overnight in the frig and drinks that quart of water throughout the following day where she likes to add a touch of licorice root for sweetness. You might search for nutritive herbs to learn of more options.

Jacqueline’s article also adds that there is also “testing through Dr. Amy Yasko and Holistic Health. It will analyze your specific DNA methylation genetics and tell you exactly which supplement(s) to take and how much. Very specific and pretty understandable. ([Jacqueline is] not an affiliate).”

Best of luck to you and your son. I hope things will get turned around and on good ground.

          D

Thank you, Dawn, for your reply and suggestions. I will look into Jacqueline of Deep Roots at Home, Marjorie Wildcraft’s video with Doc and maybe more testing through Dr. Amy Yasko and Holistic Health. A few years ago we took him to see a naturalpathic doc. My son had a lot of testing done (that’s when we found out about the MTHFR gene) We were able to learn of his deficiencies and at that time he was able to swallow supplements. That helped him for a while, but with all the repeat testing and cost of supplements over the next 4 years it took a toll on the finances. We spent over $20,000 to help him. (Of course if you don’t continue to do more re-tests and have an appt every couple of months with the doctor after a couple of years he was no longer considered a patient!) My husband and I are now on social security and those finances are not there. But I know that our Heavenly Father can and will provide also. So, anyway…I will get off my soap box! Thank you for taking the time to reply back to my post. I appreciate your thoughtfulness, Dawn.

Hi Suzanne. My son has some issues with B vitamins which cause him to have lower iron, which in turn leads to behavioral problems (probably due to sleep issues related to low iron). I make a B12 tea for him and sometimes he takes it as a tincture and sometimes as a concentrated tea. I have attached the recipe that I use and hope that it helps. I do not know about your son’s condition so please make sure that each of the herbs is safe for him before trying it. Good luck!

              1 oz nettle leaf
              1.5 oz hawthorn berry
              1/2 oz alfalfa leaf
              1/2 oz eleuthero root
              1/2 oz licorice root

Mix in jar. Use 4-5 TB to make 1 quart tea. Drink 2-3 cups per day for 6-8 weeks or as needed.

Thank you so much, Elizabeth for responding to my post. I really appreciate you also taking the time to provide this information for me.

I am sorry you also are having issues with your son. It is very heart-breaking to see them suffer. I think the recipe you posted will work for my son and I look forward to my son trying it. I have a question about the end of your post. You stated, “ Mix in jar. Use 4-5 TB to make 1 quart tea. Drink 23 per day for 6-8 weeks or as needed.” Can you clarify what you mean by 23 a day? I am thinking you might mean to drink 2-3 quarts a day? Thank you again for your help.

2-3 cups a day it should read. Sorry about the typo.

Hello Elizabeth, I was interested in your posted reply. If I can inquire, which herb(s) are contributing to B12 in your blend? And, I’m interested in learning if the B12 is causing any sleep wakefulness too? Also, if I can ask, is there iron in these herbs? I can only think of Yellow Dock as an herb that helps with iron but I know there are more. Thank you for any response to my many questions … always and forever a student of herbs 😉  Take Care
