I have been making Nourishing Herbal Infusions.  I wondered if anyone else has been doing this.

I’ve been making overnight cold infusions. One of my favorites is Strawberry Leaf, Spearmint, and Oatstraw.

          What have you been making?

I might have to try that one Alissa. Sounds really good. :0)

Hippocrates said “Let thy food be thy medicine and thy medicine be thy food.” I think incorporating tonic and nutritive herbs into our daily fare really is the way our bodies were designed to work.

There are so many great herbs to feed us things we can scarcely find in commercially farmed produce.

Have a look at the herbs in these formulas for some ideas on good nutritives.

                Nourishing Roots Tea

                Nutritive Formula

                Digestive – Prebiotic Formula

So Doc, what is the best way to use these?

Obviously the Nourishing Roots Tea would be in a tea form.  But what about the Nutritive Formula and the PreBiotic Formula?  Are either good for tincturing, or do we just “eat the powder”?  I could put the Nutritive in your “fake brownies”…  Sadly I have two categories for my messed up taste buds: if it’s good for me, it tastes awful – but if it’s awful for me, it tastes good.  There seems to be no middle ground with my stupid taste buds.  If there were taste bud transplants, I think I’d sign up – then I could ENJOY things that are good for me.  Somewhere my brain and body went badly wrong I think.  Thanks for your suggestions!

They are both best as a powder.

The prebiotic formula is only sold as a powder because the fiber is 99% of the point. Tincturing it would completely eliminate its utility.

I’m new to the school and stumbled across this thread.  I too have a hypersensitivity to smells.  It has led to years of dealing with migraines as I cannot be around any artificial scents (which are everywhere these days).  I have had some relief since I had Covid.  My sense of smell never has come back to its former strength, thank goodness.  I still have some issues with them though.  I’d love to know if you had any success with the herbs you mentioned trying.

I love that quote from Hippocrates! One of the very successful ways my husband and I follow that quote is by regularly drinking Hibiscus flower infusions daily. Personally I have been able to stop taking any blood pressure meds this way going over 3 years now and my husband has been able to reduce his blood pressure prescription by 75%. Before doing this I talked to our General Practitioner and he was wonderful to work with step by step. He is from India and has a real heart for herbal medicine! We are so fortunate.

Thank you.  I suspected that, but there was a glimmer of hope for me for a moment LOL!  So is there ANY hope for screwed up taste buds that hate good stuff?  Seriously it’s a royal pain in my tukkus and has been all my life.  My dentist said I’m a “super taster” and a “super smeller”.  Might there be something that can tame these beasts that rule my life?  Honestly I use the herbs (like Rest Easy) because I know how beneficial they are to me, but because of my weird system, they almost gag me – even disguising it in all manner of things!  To be clear for anyone other than Doc here, it’s NOT the herbs, it’s me – this happens with most things that are good for me.  Sad but true.  I appreciate everything you do Doc and all you teach us!

Is the tasting issue something that was a change or have you always had a hyper-sensitive licker?

LOL!  Even as a little tot I remember mom and dad making comments about getting past the nose or the taste test.  Both senses have always been overly sensitive, and that makes it almost impossible to eat good stuff instead of bad for me stuff!  SOOOO frustrating!  Merry CHRISTmas!

Sounds like you just have really acute senses. I don’t think I have an herb for that. One of my daughters has a nose like a bloodhound. She can walk into a room and tell you everything that has happened there for the past week. LOL

Well, I feel your daughter’s “pain” and glad I’m not alone, but it certainly doesn’t help me get “yucky tasting stuff” down me any better!  I was hoping there was something that would be a “taste bud miracle” much like the teasel did with the weird nerve pains!

It’d be fun to try swishing a little teasel over your licker a few times a day (mixed with enough water to keep it moving around the mouth). But my guess is that your taste buds were just made that way and think they’re doing a wonderful job. It’s hard to fix things that don’t think they’re broken.

Doc – It would be even more fun if it worked and I could get normal taste buds!  So teasel for the “weird nerve issues” – are taste buds nerves?  I’m ordering some teasel and other goodies tonight, so soon I’ll be able to try that.  But correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t you dose teasel as 1 drop two to three times a day, increasing by one drop per day?  That’s going to be kind of hard to swish isn’t it!?  I’m open to suggestions!

I’m actually hoping it might help my shoulder.  Had a bone spur removed about 2 years ago, and by all logic, it shouldn’t hurt, but maybe it’s “stuck” with owwie memories and won’t let go. So I’m hoping it will be a good fit like it was for the lady who had been in the car wreck 20 years prior!

Taste buds aren’t nerves but they transmit all of their information via nerves just like your sore shoulder does. So if they aren’t working it can certainly be a nerve problem.

Just put a 1/4 teaspoon in a little water and swish and tell us if it helps so we can get smart. :0)

So no titrating needed?  Just swish and swallow or not swallow?  Isn’t that about 15 drops give or take?  I just was trying to figure out the 1 drop today, 2 drops tomorrow… thing.  But if 1/4 tsp is good, I’ll go that route.

Internal use for the shoulder as well?  I’ll count the “swish” dose for the shoulder.  Thanks 🙂

I’ve only done the titration approach to dosing teasel on two individuals because I had a really strong impression to do so. Usually I just dose it like any other tincture.

Thank you!  Glad to know about the dosing.  My teasel tincture should be here any day now, and I can’t wait to start “teaseling my tongue”!  I assume I can swallow it after swishing it.  I REALLY hope this helps the overly sensitive, but not overly effective taste buds!  I will update if anything changes on this issue 🙂

I assume the internal use will be good for the shoulder as well – or should I also apply topically?  I’m just so excited to see small changes starting to happen, and I truly thank you for teaching us all so much!

I recently learned about Fire Cider.  Basically stuff like garlic, onion, horseradish, chili peppers, etc., infused in raw apple cider vinegar, and taken by the shot glass full every day during cold and flu season.  I didn’t make Fire Cider, but I did infuse a bunch of “spaghetti herbs” into some ACV and Raw Honey (and oxymel).  It tastes good enough to make a fantastic salad dressing, but I pour it into a shot glass and take my daily “flu shot,” lol.
