        I got gout about 10 days ago and finally got the gout itself to go away (based on the “big toe pain and redness) – but since then, the top half of my foot (toes to mid foot) is discolored, tender, and most of the time really hurts.  I can attribute some of the discoloration to tinctures, but normally when I apply tinctures topically, the color washes off in the shower – but not with this.  It actually was very discolored during the gout phase, almost looking like a big ole bruise.  I am finally able to bend my toes up and down a bit, but for the longest time, the toes were so swollen that I couldn’t move them.  But I cannot seem to figure out what to do with the tenderness and pain – or more importantly, why it’s there.  I’ve had gout before, and never had any of this weirdness!  I’m thinking a good soak in some strong tea?  Or would tinctures be better?  I’ve used hops, willow bark, devils claw, plantain, and a few others I cannot recall right now.  Any thoughts on why this is so tender and painful after the gout seems to be gone?  It wakes me up with pretty bad pain in the middle of the night making it really hard to get back to sleep, so any suggestions are welcome!

          Could it be cellulitis or lymphagitis? Could there be an infection traveling up the limb? Perhaps a diagnosis by a health care practitioner is something to consider.

              HA HA HA!  Lisa, you’re a funny gal!  Our local docs don’t seem to know squat.  They guess from time to time just so they can throw some big pharma product at it, and I think even then they know it won’t work.  For years, I called my hubby’s doctor “Dr Do Little Know Little”.  Hubby has since figured out that I was right and this guy was a clown.  But back to the foot – nothing is going up my leg.  It’s kind of “stuck” in the last 4 inches of my foot (including the toes).  It doesn’t feel like an infection (or at least it’s not warm or red/angry looking).  Just looks bruised and tender to the touch with deep ache, especially at night.

                  Wow Sharon! I’d throw the book at it! Meaning, I would start using things that didnt make much sense.  Like a poultice of sorts. Maybe using marshmallow in some form because marshmallow likes to bring things back to life.  I am too new to know any better. But, I do hope your inspired to go in the right direction with this.  Losing sleep is not fun at all.  Neither is pain of course.  I hope someone comes along with the perfect suggestion.

                      Jean – you are so right about none of this being fun.  I am hoping Doc Jones can chime in here.  I think my body has for some reason, gotten very inflammatory, even though I eat pretty much no sweets and not much carbs at all.  Did the cleanse twice, last one was in August.  I’ve been babying this thing for 2 weeks or more, and getting REALLY tired of limping around and having to use Voltaren (topical pain ointment – pharmaceutical) to deal with it for night time.  Daytime I can keep using tinctures, but nights need a longer lasting stronger something – and I’m tired of having to resort back to the pharma world!

                          Hi again Sharon, I have been watching the lymph videos the other day and I think I remember something about plugged lymph nodes and I think Doc talked about it more and what to do.  I will try to review those video’s again as soon as I can.  But, getting Doc to help would be a lot faster.  I feel for you, it is hard to get anything done when our feet are not working!

                      Lisa, it sounds like you are very knowledgable about the body. Some of the words you used I didn’t even recognize! 🙂 Doc also repeatedly says it is often a good idea to get an official diagnosis from medical professionals but then run when they start prescribing! 🙂 I know some doctors may think you crazy though to not go ahead with the prescription. Just a couple months ago we had a case where we thought we knew the diagnosis and wanted to just do the herbs as we thought. When we did end up getting a proper diagnosis, we were surprised that our “diagnosis” had been completely wrong. Now that we know what we are working with, we’ve been able to use herbs very effectively.

                          I would have zero idea on how to know THAT!  Got any great ideas on how to tell?  Don’t say doctor again – our local doctors suck swamp water!

                          Doc, back in 2016 on Herb-Talk, you said:

                          I have all on hand except the Shepherd’s Purse.  Can you direct me with something I can do now for what seems to be a build up of inflammation in my body (especially my foot)?  You also said: “For the pain I’d use anti-inflammatory herbs and nervines” – any particular ones come to mind for this particularly odd situation?  I specialize in weird – wish I could find the “off button” for that character trait!  Thanks in advance Doc Jones – you’re the best!

                            Hi Sharon,  Wondering how you are doing.  Are you able to stay off your feet? (Which is terribly hard to do!) Does Elevating it help?  Sometimes when things get really complicated, we have to resort back to “simple” whatever that may be for you in this case.

                            I know a regime I was on one time had me  carrot/celery juicing in the morning, having a “simple” 4 ingredient smoothie sometime afterwards. (I would have added the nutritive powder back then if I had known about it.) I could have chicken or fish and cooked or fresh greens for lunch and kind of the same idea for supper. I was not suppose to eat between meals.  Also a bath every night  with Epsom salts.

                            I dont know what a gout diet looks like except tart cherry juice was suppose to be good.

                            I took a class one time on the lymphatics.  There is a sodium/potassium pump in every cell.  And when that is not working right . . .  things dont work properly.  I just cant remember how one was suppose to get the sodium/potassium pumps working again.  The info is buried somewhere around here.   We all know that jumping on a mini tramp helps lymph move, but, you cant do that.  But I remember learning that even is someone else was jumping for you, while you were sitting on a tramp is suppose to help.  But, that seems too monotonous. Swinging on a swing is suppose to help lymphatics drain.  I think the Shakers use to put adults in an adult cradle and rock the cradle for sick folk. (seems odd, but, they were on to something and I am sure it was comforting)  I know none of this may not help you but I am just trying to empty my brain. At least you will know that I have been thinking of you. And of course, Doc’s dry brushing helps move lymphatics.

                            Also praying: God bless: the lymphatic system, skeletal system, immune system, etc. helps as well.

                            So, God please bless Sharon’s lymphatic system tonight!

                                Jean, you are just so sweet to think of things that might help.  At this point, I’m trying to figure out which herb is SUPER anti-inflammatory to make a good warm foot soak out of.  I’ve tried epsom salt with apple cider vinegar, followed by NoMoSpazms and Calendula tincture (topically).  It’s been over 2 weeks, and though it is at least good enough to walk on, being on my feet too long is still terrible, and it will typically wake me in the middle of the night with pretty severe pain that will at that point, require Voltaren topical pain treatment (back to big pharma again whether I want to or not)!  Thank you for your prayers as well!

                                    I am going to try bromelian on an empty stomach.  As well as increase the turmeric in my special sprinkle.  And I am going to look into celery seed.

                                      and I am going to remove all uncooked  cruciferous veggies from my smoothies.

                                      AND in the future I will lightly steam my cruciferous veggies then freeze them to put in smoothies.

                                          Jean, no, this “round” of gout (or whatever it has morphed into) is like nothing I’ve ever had before.  I do get gout from time to time and don’t eat the “no-no diet” for gout, but many that eat right still get it – I honestly don’t think they really know what causes it!  LOL!

                                          Here’s an article discussing how good broccoli is for gout (I do put some in my smoothies) – but raw veggies, IMHO are still better for us than cooked (and would likely taste better in a smoothie): https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/broccoli-and-gout

                                          Why would you take bromelian on an empty stomach?  What I know of it is that it’s a digestive aid, it doesn’t seem to make sense to take it when there’s no food to help digest.  Maybe I’m missing something!

                                          We all know that turmeric is great for inflammation (but in my opinion, hard to ingest enough to help with each meal) – and of course, as Doc always says, adding fresh ground black pepper makes it something like 2,000 times more bioavailable.   I’ve read something about celery seed, but don’t recall what for.  I’ve heard pros and cons for the hot/cold hydrotherapy, and  I hope it works great – please let me know how it works for you?

                                              Hi Sharon! I’ve found turmeric to be exceedingly difficult to get passed my taste buds in medicinal amounts. The other day I tried it with some fresh lemon juice in water and the lemon helps cover up the taste of the turmeric some. Also, Doc mentions Yucca and Frankincense (aka boswelia I think) for anti-inflammatory. I would seems that hydrotherapy might be good as well like was mentioned (as long as you don’t have nerve or vascular diseases). I hope you get to feeling better soon! Feet so important to our function and happiness!

                                              Hi Sharon,

                                              I just realized something tonight.  While I was saying “I” was going to do this or that . . . What I really meant was, if I was in your shoes, this is what I might do or try.  I have heard that people are able to sleep with a ginger poultice on their foot all night long, or, as long as needed because apparently it really helps.  But, I have no idea where you are in all of this. like, how bad your foot has gotten and or if it has turned into something else.  I do hope that you are feeling better and have gotten some relief by now.  Thinking of you.  Hoping for your best.

                                                  Hi Jean – how is your hot/cold therapy going for your issue?  Mine is infinitely better – still some pain and swelling, but it’s probably 90% better.  I just have no idea what caused this – hope it wasn’t interaction between the piddly 2 meds I take and the herbs!  I keep trying to find out about my specific meds and herbs since taking pain meds is out of my comfort zone, so that means taking all the anti-inflammatory herb/tinctures I can throw at my owwies – so I just hope Doc can answer my specific med question for me.  Hope your stuff gets better soon also!

                                                      Boy Sharon,  I am at the point of not wanting to deal with anyone that is taking any meds for anything. (I am not speaking of you) Your on this forum and I presume that you are much farther along then I am.  So, you know how this all works.  I am doing fine.  When I mentioned the hydrotherapy, that would have been something I would have tried if I had been you, for the issue you had.   For the issue I had at the end of last month into January, I did an exercise that moves bones into proper positions. (muscles move bones) relax the right muscles and the bones move back in place. Not sure if that is what eventually helped or not. I am glad that you are 90% better! Its no fun to be immobile!

                                                  I am also going to try hot/cold water hydrotherapy. (first one and then the other) back and forth.

                                                  And then I may elevate my foot after that.

                                                    Hi Sharon, Bromelain works totally different when taken on a empty stomach.  That is how they recommend taking it when one takes the nattokinase.

                                                    “RE:turmeric: I cut up a banana, pour liquid tahini over it and sprinkle it with a digestive spice mix.  Then I sprinkle  turmeric over it all.  I made a powder that has coconut powder and turmeric in it to make a tea.  I have been using that powder to sprinkle on top of the banana instead of straight turmeric. Of course, I cant find the ingredients right now as I used the last of it yesterday. I may have forgotten to write the ingredients down.  Usually I write them right on the jar.

                                                    re: black pepper:  I have not done a lot of black pepper, but, I know it’s suppose to boost whatever you put it in.  Somewhere I read to stay away from black pepper so I have not gotten over that obstacle as of yet.

                                                    RE: celery seed: I have just kind of found out about celery seed myself.  I think from Doc’s lectures.  So, it sounds amazing.

                                                    re: hot/cold hydrotherapy: Well, if one has diabetes, its probably contra-indicated due to the loss of feeling (and one might burn themselves) Otherwise . . . it causes blood vessels to constrict and expand helping with circulation.

                                                    I read where a ginger poultice helps gout.
