Looking for advice on treating an open, probably infected sore in my dog’s mouth. Not sure whether it is something stuck in the gum that he’s having trouble expelling or a problem underneath that’s come to the surface, although it very likely started as an external issue. He has a strong hunt drive and will chew trees, boards, rocks, or anything else that stands between him and his prize.
I would flush it with a syringe full of saline, or hydrogen peroxide, or calendula tea. Several times a day, especially after meals and treats. If it doesn’t get better pronto, he needs to see a vet. Antibiotics may be needed. Oral infections can lead to sepsis and death. Take it seriously.
