Are all the oreganos and marjoram basically medicinally the same? I’m wondering because I’d like to get the medicinal benefits along with the tasty seasoned food.

I’d suspect if it is the same species and has a strong oregano aroma, it’ll work the same.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

What is the Latin name for the best medicinal oregano?

Is a specific oregano better than another or all mostly the same?

And is it as great as the Essential Oil world says, i.e.: antibiotic, antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, immune stimulating?

Funny story: A friend gave me two oregano plants. They grew well for a few years. I used it as oregano but it didn’t smell a lot like the oregano from the store. One day my husband says that doesn’t smell like oregano that smells like mint. I doubt my friend and look closer at the plant and sure enough it’s got a square stem so I pull it up because I have a ton of mint that actually smells and tastes minty. Later I learn that oregano is in the mint family:( I have no idea what that plant really was but it grew well.

Anyway, I need to plant oregano now, and am looking for the best variety. I’d like a fabulous plant for culinary delights and also the best medicinal oregano. Any suggestions?

The best oregano is what is called Wild Oregano in the essential Oil trade and is sourced from the Mediterranean region.

              And to alter your suspicion:

Oregano (US /ɔːˈrɛɡənoʊ/ or /əˈrɛɡənoʊ/;[1] UK /ˌɒrɪˈɡɑːnoʊ/;,[2] scientific name Origanum vulgare, is a flowering plant in the mint family
