On Saturday, 6/22, Patrick hosted a Medicine Making workshop. As part of the workshop there were two herb identification walks. One was held at my house and the other at Patrick’s. These pictures are from the group at my house.

I have 50-60 herbs that grow on or near my home. The list grows constantly as I improve my knowledge and identification skills. Nearly every time Patrick comes over to our house there is one more “weed” that goes on the herbal medicine list. One of Patrick’s favorite sayings is:

EVERY plant is medicinal. We just have not found out what they are all good for…… yet!

This is where the tour started, in our front yard, which we have turned into a grape vineyard. We are talking about the grape leaves here.

The tour then proceeded to our back yard, which we have converted to a raised bed garden area. If you can’t tell, we REALLY hate mowing and are repurposing as much or our land as possible from urban to ultra rural as we can. Here we are looking at False Solomon Seal and Comfrey, which are temporary residents in this grow bed. The PVC pipes are for holding up plastic sheet for Winter gardening. It is called a HOOP HOUSE. We try to overwinter veggies and get an EARLY start on our Spring crops this way.

Here we are still in our back yard. We are talking about Willow and Elder and maybe Dandelion.

Here the group is down by the pond. There is Teasel, Broad leaf Plantain and MAYBE a big burdock. Probably some other things that have not been discovered yet as well.

Renee wanted me to post this as well. It is Patrick and myself. We are at an area on the South side of our home where we are putting in a small herb bed. We have Lovage, Rue, Feverfew, Narrow Leaf Plantain and Hyssop growing there now. Patrick is in the straw hat and I am in the brown one.
