I was out foraging last week and noticed an itchy rash on my neck the next day. We suspect it is poison ivy. Any  herbal recommendations for healing? Do not have any jewel weed, and it is still cold in Virginia. Going down to 32 F tomorrow night. Very itchy and red rash.

I live in Virginia and it is scary to think of poison ivy out already.  If you have calendula and marshmallow/mallow, I would infuse that in some witch hazel and spray it on the rash.  I also use plantain for all skin issues.

I too got poison ivy this past week. I didn’t get a chance to make chickweed ointment as I’d planned but did go out and pick some chickweed, crushed it with my fingers and applied a poultice with it directly to the area. The itching has stopped and the redness has gone away. I hope this helps.

Chickweed orplantain topically are good. Brigham tea and burdock internally would be good at this point too. Have a look at the Histamine formula.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

I purchased the Histamine Formula tincture from Homegrown Herbalist because little spots of poison ivy kept popping up on me this entire summer. I have been taking it for several days and my poison ivy is gone. I just took a small dose in my water first thing in the morning.

I get poison ivy bad bad bad.  Then I get worked up and get hives.  Just the past couple weeks, I got the Histamine tincture, and I nearly cried the first time it worked.  I mean, within minutes, the bumps were receeding, and the itching (painful) was simply no more.  Because I’m the lawngirl around home and shop, I seem to fight poison ivy all summer long.  By this time of year, my forearms and thighs are raw and ugly.  So, I’ve started taking a dose in the morning, then as needed for itching, or before I mow.  It’s been lasting 8-12 hours, depending on the day (stress makes it worse for me).  The slightly elevating nature of the Brigham Tea in it doesn’t seem to bother me during the night if taken before bed.  So so so grateful to Doc!

I live in Va too … one year I was out in the yard/garden working in the soil and broke out in an itchy rash; I knew it was poison ivy but purplexed to discover that the roots and stems are able to cause reactions even in dormant season 🙁   Just a note for awareness …  Be careful out there if you are sensitive like me.

ooooh Paige that sounds great!  I’m a big fan of witch hazel (I was the weirdo in school using it as a face toner when my friends were burning their skin off with Seabreeze!).  So cold infusion because of the marshmallow…calendula is en route.  But hey, I never thought of employing witch hazel as the liquid…wondering if I could make the infusion with the Histamine formula powder to make the spray.  Can you think of any reason not to?  I get poison ivy so badly, and it’s systemic, meaning once I get it, it pops up everywere, without direct contact.   I am considering a little liver support too, so my skin has some oomph to fight back.  I personally think it should be illegal to have any other conditions present while menopause is raging, but I can’t seem to get that idea to take off!

A friend in our little village in Missouri has had an on going problem with poison ivy, she said what has helped her the most was salt water.
