StudentWhat would be the best remedy for those with a possible hairline bone fracture in the foot if they were to hit their toe on a piece of furniture or twisted their foot? The application of Arnica gel should be helpful in reducing the swelling and bruising of the area, but I’d be interested to learn more about the best way to speed up bone healing through the use of herbs other than red light therapy for the affected area.

StudentMake sure everything is splinted right and then I would start putting a comfrey poultice on it, or if you have a comfrey tincture on hand, use that

StudentTopic AuthorThank you so much, Greg, for the tip. All the more reason to start building my emergency kit to include tinctures, poultice supplies, and splints in various sizes for family and friends in situations like this. I see there’s a section on “When There’s No Doctor–Emergency Herbalism.” Looking forward to it and so glad I signed up for the HGH program to help me get my medicinal chest set up thanks to the helpful advice from friendly folks like you, Sandra, other forum participants and Doc Jones.

Homestead InstructorYup. Either comfrey poultice or tincture. The tincture works better, is faster and less of a mess. Spray it on several times a day.
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentWow! sorry to hear that! I did something similar and broke my toe and possibly another bone. I just had to let it heal, there was no real way to splint mine. Hopefully you will heal quickly!

StudentTopic AuthorA broken pinky toe’s happened before and it took awhile to heal without the splint. The current hairline fracture mentioned (if it is that) is actually on the outer part of the foot either on the side or bottom sole. That happened from slipping a step and twisting the upper part the foot. I imagine a splint would be helpful in this situation. Waiting for the swelling to subside before deciding whether it’s just a bad sprain or a fracture. Will see about getting some comfrey tincture. Appreciate your words of encouragement. 🙂
