Link below suggest the entire plant is active with Sapogenins: Terresrosin, Ruscogenin, and hecogenin; harmine and nor-harmine; flavonoids: quercetin and rutin.

Is that your experience that the whole plant is usable or should I just stick to the seed capsules?

Check out this picture involving puncture vine after an evening of Wildcrafting.

In Michael Moore’s book about medicinal herbs of the desert he indicates that the whole plant while the seed capsules are attached is the time to harvest.

One thing to note is he also warns about a lowering of heart beat rate during use and should be careful due to that. He also indicates some negative effects for those that have had or are currently experiencing kidney disease.

I harvested it at the time indicated in your reply. What parts of the plants can be used and still be medicinal and effective?

As I mentioned in my initial comment the whole plant is.

I re read your original reply. I misunderstood what you wrote. Thanks for clarifying.

Make sure you dry it in a brown paper bag or a bucket or something. Those seeds are devils and love to fall off.

I split off the whellin’ and dealin’ part of this thread and moved it to The Swap Meet.

I hand ground these myself with a grinder that was originally designed for grinding wheat. I have more puncture vine than I could ever use. I am interested in trading for herbs. If there is someone interested, I’ll post what I am looking for. Also, if you REALLY want puncture vine, there was a stand next to the one I harvested yesterday that I could pull and dry that will yield a lot more.

                    Thanks,
