StudentI am Angie in North Carolina. I have had a couple of health issues in the past three years. These events led to a serious lack of trust with the medical profession. I hate pointing fingers, so I will say, it may be health insurance regulations which ultimately caused my distrust. I started researching alternatives and eventually landed here. After diving into herbal medicine with Doc Jones, I eventually weened off all prescription meds (Hypertension, COPD, & Diabetes) and replaced them with herbal medicine…….(AGAINST all that Doc Jones has advised.) I have to tell you, it has been six months and I am doing GREAT!
Fast forward to two months ago. My daughter-in-law convinced me to get an appointment with a Functional Medicine practice because they wanted me to associate with a doctor of some sort. The first thing this doctor ordered was every test you can think of. I am positive for H. Pylori, C Diff Toxin A, Candida, Leaky gut……. a plethora of issues. He asked me to stop all my herbs and take only those he gives me. I CANNOT poop without my constant patience powder! I tried it his way for two days and had to continue my constant patience powder. The capsules they gave me are not labeled with any herb name, and I’m not sure how I feel about this. I read the reviews of the practice and one review stated they were told this practice could not replace their regular doctor. I ditched my regular doctor, therefore, I don’t know who to ask about these test results. This practice does not “prescribe” pharmaceuticals of any kind and they don’t accept any insurance. Therefore, I guess, I am asking,
1- Have any of you had experience with a functional medicine practice,
2- Am I wasting money with the Functional Medicine practice,
3- Can these infections be cured without antibiotics?
I realize you are not giving medical advice here, but any guidance from your experiences would be greatly appreciated!

StudentAngie, I’m sorry to hear about your negative experiences with the health care system. A lot of us are here, from both sides of the fence, for the exact reason. Unfortunately, third party payers have a heavy hand in health care. I agree with not taking something that is not labelled! If I could suggest a diet without sugar, processed foods, and complex carbohydrates, as your first effort as it may result in some amazing changes on their own. Addressing only one health issue at a time may be a better approach than an all-out attack. Herbals do not replace a necessary prescription medication. I agree with Doc on that.
There are modules that address each health issue and the questions that you have. Candida module seems new to me. I do know that sugar feeds growth and persons with diabetes may have greater issues with controlling candida. Again, the sugar causes a lot of our health issues.
I would suggest, stay on your medications and adhere to a strict diet. One side effect to this will be weight loss, but with-it inflammation, and improvement in your diabetes and blood pressure, along with many other benefits. As you approach ‘borderline’ status on your numbers you could consider switching from medication to herbal products just watch your numbers closely.
This is just my suggestion on how I would approach the concerns. Also, read and take notes on all chapters which will address and answer your questions on more detail. I hope you get this sorted out!

StudentHi Angie,
I’m from Alberta, Canada and I too have a number of horrors stories to tell about our health care system. I currently don’t have a regular doctor, but do have a naturopath and chiropractor. (neither are covered by our ‘free’ healthcare system). While I am on no pharmaceuticals, I am spending a lot of my income on supplements. I am starting to grow and process more of my herbs so that will help with costs.
I agree with Shiela on diet. No sugar, especially not gmo beet sugar. I would go through Doc Jone’s cleanse series, in the order he suggests. I too think to do them all at once is too much.
Best wishes on recovery to full health.
