        Hello,

I have a question about making standardized tinctures with 1:5 ratio. I´ve noticed that when I try to use this ratio with leafy herbs that have been cut and sifted it seems way too little menstruum for the amount of marc. I feel like I have to add way more for it to be covered like 1:10 or soemthing like that.

Are there any tricks to getting the ratio as low as possible? For example if I grind the cut and sifted leaf into a powder would that help?

Grinding to a powder will help a lot and will eliminate the problem in most cases.

But, there are some herbs are just thirstier than others.

          By the way…

For those that may not know, the term “menstruum” is the funky herbalist word for the liquid used to make a tincture. The term “marc” is the funky herbalist word for the herbs themselves. 🙂

A 1:5 ratio would be a weight ratio of 1 gram of dry herb to 5 gram of vodka (or whatever menstruum you’re using).

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
