This is my first post I am creating for the first lesson. But it is something that I am really working on. I am trying to improve the functioning of the rumen of my two new dairy goats that I added to my herd of eight dairy goats about eight weeks ago. They became very ill after the first week with pneumonia (probably) and diarrhea and no appetite and decreased milk production. Under advice of a veternarian, they had some medicine, but the cool thing to do was to re-start the rumen. I was instructed to give them 24 hours of alkaline water (Bounce Back product) then a solution of healthy goat berries from another goat. This worked and they were back eating and milking again!- for a week. Then the same thing happened so the I did the same thing again. This time I added a spoonful for dried dandelion root to the little bit of alfalfa and barley and oats they were eating. And they were better again. Then I ran out of dandelion root and then they soft served again. So I got some more dandelion root and they are better again. My question is: Can I continue this dandelion root or chicory root indefinitely or do I at some point need to be concerned about inulin clogging the rumen?
