Hi Everyone,
I would appreciate some assistance for me regarding a woman I would like to help with some herbal remedies.
**Just to clarify, I am offering help to her at no charge, and she is willing to cover the cost of any remedies I recommend. I am strictly an amateur herbalist aspiring to take the HomeGrown Herbalist program when I can afford it. This case is a bit out of my comfort zone and I only offered to help her because I am seriously concerned she is not well.***
She is a farmer in her early seventies, burning the candle at both ends due to a current labour shortage on her farm.
-she recently had a severe bladder infection, which has resolved
-she recently began having gallstone attacks (not her first ones), which I think are being exacerbated by her exhaustion
-she has been told by her Western medical doctors to try and manage the attacks through diet. The attacks have only resolved through spontaneous vomiting. It appears the gallstones get lodged in her duct and then they are loosened when she vomits.
-I saw her last night and she looks pale and drawn, not her usual strong self at all
What I would like to recommend for her:
Dandelion tincture (as directed on bottle, 3x per day on an empty stomach)
1 Tablespoon (3 x per day) of my home-cultured kefir to support her gut and immune function
Nettle tea in the morning as a general health tonic
Oat straw tea in the evening to calm her nerves
Does this sound OK?
Here are my questions:
Would digestive bitters be OK to recommend, or could they make things worse with the gallstones? (Ingredients: Globe Artichoke, Dandelion, Gentian, Chamomile, Turmeric, Burdock, Black Walnut, Ginger)
Would an additional small amount of turmeric also be a good addition to the kefir or is it going to stir up the liver/gall bladder too much?
I would appreciate any assistance people are able to offer. Many thanks!
Kind regards,
Happy Homesteader

Hi Everyone,
I saw the woman today and decided to only give her the nettle leaf tea and the oatstraw tea.
I was too concerned about exacerbating her gall bladder condition, and didn’t want to take any chance.
She has stabiized with her dietary changes and has had no further attacks. Her colour actually looked much better today.
I recommended she see a Naturopath in about six months if she continues to be stable, to discuss using Dandelion and/or Digestive Bitters under his or her supervision.
I will post a brief update in a week or two regarding how she responded to the teas.

Hi There,
Great news that she is feeling much better. She had a full blood work up and all is within normal limits. Her colour has returned. She is feeling well and has not had any further gallbladder attacks.
