Dr. Patrick Jones
Homestead InstructorI use them if they’re green and bendy. Otherwise I separate the leaves.
Is bendy a word?
Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

StudentI couldn’t find any detailed information on the medicinal benefits of rosemary’s hard stems. But some recipes recommend using them as skewers for grilling kabobs. If it flavors the meat, it may still have medicinal benefits. However, it’s tough to chew.

Homestead InstructorIf it isn’t young fresh and bendy, don’t bother using it. Wood is rarely medicinal at all and certainly not as medicinal as the green stuff on a plant.

StudentTopic AuthorHow good of a cholagogue is rosemary? Would it be a good herb for histamine elimination in an allergy formula?

Dr. Patrick Jones
Homestead Instructorit doesn’t have much of a reputation as a cholagogue. I’d use one of the others.

StudentTopic AuthorDoc, I read from Aviva Romm that rosemary is “perhaps the queen of detox seasonings” because it helps the liver detox. Could you explain how rosemary helps detox?

StudentI don’t know much about rosemary, but it seems that burdock root, dandelion root, and oregon grape are more commonly used to help the liver eliminate histamines.
