I have been working on identifying some plants for wildcrafting. We cannot grow Olive trees (Olea europaea) here, but Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) and its cousin buffalo berry  (Shepherdia argentea) are prolific.  Are these at all interchangeable?

Nope. Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) and regular olive (Olea europea) are completely different critters. The leaves of both are medicinal.

          Olive Leaf (Olea europaea)

I’ll do a quickview lesson on Russian olive tomorrow. It’s a great plant and I grab and munch the leaves as an anti-inflammatory all the time. :0)

Any chance you can put anything together that is redeemable about the Autumn Olive?.  It grows everywhere in Va.

Yup. I’ll do that one too.

I wrote a quickview for Russian olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia) and included autumn olive (Elaeagnus umbellata) in the lesson. It should be up any day now. Just need to wait for the IT nerds to get it posted. :0)
