I had a friend call me regarding her dog today.  Recently neutered, 4 YO German wire haired Griffon, 52lbs.  He developed a scrotal hematoma.  He will not let her near that area so compress is not an option just yet.  The vet only provided sleeping pills for him to keep him inactive for a few days to allow the blood to be reabsorbed.  I was wondering if there was anything he could take internally to speed the healing?  My first thought was yarrow to help with the bleeding.  I’ve not encountered this situation with a dog before so I’m a little hesitant.  I don’t want to cause additional bleeding or thin the blood.

Anyone have ideas or experience with this?  She lives in a remote area and the vet she visited prescribed the sleeping pills and had doubled his dosage.  Really glad she read the instruction packet instead of the vet label instructions!  Needless to say she is a bit apprehensive about the situation.

Yarrow will help slow bleeding. But mostly your vet is right and time will heal this one.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
