        Anyone ever used the herbs Self Heal?

          Yes!  I understand it is good for detoxing  as a blood purifier and good lymphatic action.  I dried it and used it in tea, and I made some tincture out of it because our neighbor is fighting Lupus and it is supposed to help as an immune modulator – apparently it has the ability to stimulate when needed or downplay overactive immune system. She’s been using it and believes it is helping her.  I also made a salve with plantain, Self Heal, and Lemon Balm for cold sores and found it helpful.  But I am NO EXPERT.  I’ve only just begun to learn, but this has been my experience thus far.

            Do you know if it aids in the healing process kind of like Comfrey. The name sort of indicates that is is good for healing wounds

              Hello Rebekah, I have been reading studies on Self Heal and researching the herb for about 6 months. It seems hard to find a true monograph on it as I have bought Chinese Herb books and Western Herbalism books to no avail.               You’ll find in the first page a list of actions and its constituents, about the closest thing I have to a monograph. To try to answer your question comparing it to Comfrey, the review does not list allantoin so I do not believe it will heal like comfrey. However, it does list P. vulgaris actions to include vulnerary and antiseptic and historically as aiding healing from cited early herbalist experts like Culpeper.

              Check out the report in the link … it’s great info (gram positive antibacterial, good antiviral properties on several specific viruses, even anti-cancer. This report was great info to aid my research so I hope you will give it a read.

                  It does some nice things for promoting wound healing. It doesn’t contain allantoin like comfrey and some other herbs do but it does contain betulinic acid which promotes the formation of new tissue (especially collagen). It also has lots of antioxidants and anti-inflammatories that make things heal better.

                  Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.

                      If this helps with the formation of new tissue, would it help with post workout recovery? Like building up muscles faster?
