My husband seems to have shingles. It is near or in his eye. I made him a salve with lemon balm, calendula, plantain, marshmallow, skullcap, and teasle, I also made a tea for his eye with lemon balm and calendula. He is on day 4 of the rash. His eye is swollen and vision is blurry. He will see his doctor today, so the diagnosis is forthcoming. My question is, what more can we do to help him and protect his eye, lessen the symptoms, and shorten the duration?

Good news! The shingles is in the eye lid and not the eye. We read that blindness can occur from shingles in the eye, and are relieved to hear that on day 4, the worst is over, so don’t worry about the eye. He is still taking lemon balm and calendula internally and externally, and watching his diet to ensure low sugar, chocolate, white flour and processed food intake. He is still in pain, but the level of concern is minimized.

            Hi Eva,

I’m sorry to hear that your husband has shingles, but glad to hear the good news! I hope that it clears up quickly for him and he’s feeling much better soon!

Here’s a couple tips that I’ve learned after having shingles twice.

            -Avoid foods high in Arginine

            -Take Lysine and Vitamin C

(Doc covered the above information in a few different lectures, which you can search within the school / course content to verify. Additionally, he gives the info on how much lysine and vitamin C to take during a shingles outbreak.)

Since I’m hoping to avoid having shingles again, I generally avoid foods high in arginine and take vitamin C and lysine daily. If I do eat something high in arginine I take extra C and Lysine the day of and a few days after. The last shingles outbreak that I had was 3 years ago and I’ve been doing the things that I’ve mentioned above ever since.

Again, I’m so glad to hear the good news about your husband and wish him a speedy recovery!
