StudentMy glutes and quads, hips are very tight and sore, I am told it is from years of over use. I’ve made myself a tincture with turmeric, frankincense, lemon balm, ginger, thyme, black pepper and cayenne. I take internally and apply topically. It really does take the the edge off, but seemingly nothing permanent. Any suggestions? Oh, I cannot move after stretching.

StudentHi Laena, It sounds like somatic movement would really help you! Stretching is actually not helpful for chronically tight muscles as you body is fighting against the stretch and then tightening up more. Somatic movement helps train your brain to release muscles that are tight from over/mis-use. I highly recommend this course that Sarah Warren teaches (online) https://somaticmovementcenter.com/ Her classes have literally changed my life and I am so thankful for this tool! Let me know if you have any questions!

StudentTopic AuthorHello Sarah,
Thank you for such a quick response to my plea! I’ve never heard of this, and will certainly look into it. I am intrigued… how have you been helped by this modality, if you don’t mind me asking.

StudentI don’t mind at all! I’ve struggled with lower back pain and sciatica for most of my life. Before I tried Somatics I would come home from a day of yard work and could hardly move. It would take me days to recover. Now, I might have issues here and there, but I usually come home without pain and an hour of somatics will resolve most issues that come up.
I also had a neck/upper back injury which took years to heal and somatics was what helped the most with that. I had been to manual therapists, physical therapists and even a chiropractor for both my back and neck, and while they sometimes helped temporarily, it hardly touched the chronic misalignment I felt. I knew I needed to find something I could do for myself rather than paying 80 dollars for an hour of therapy. Somatic movement was the answer for me and the cost for Sarah Warren’s classes is SO worth it. She also has some youtube videos you can try for free before you commit.
Muscle balance therapy is another thing that could be really helpful. You may be interested in looking into that too, especially if you workout.
I hope you find relief soon!

StudentI would second Sarah’s recommendation. You might also check out something called Foundation Training. My wife had some lingering pain from a car accident that chiropractors could never fix. After going through a number of the things from Foundation Training, it went away completely. They have a number of free resources on youtube and a very large library of videos on their website

StudentLaena – you use turmeric topically!? You must have very colorful skin! Doesn’t it get on your clothes or sheets and stain them? I’m curious because I have thought about it, but chickened out!
