Do you know much about steam blasting herbs before drying them? An herb seller in our area told me that the herbs are blasted with a quick shot of steam before drying.

Are these herbs’ medicinal qualities compromised because of a quick blast of steam?

If you know, would you explain how and why this is done to herbs?

Never heard of that before. The only thing I can think of would be to kill any pests that might be on them. My feelings are ANY heat applied could deteriorate the material in some way and avoid it at all costs.

Cool, dry air is the BEST way to dry. Moving air will remove more moisture, faster, than heat will.

Never heard of it. I’m with Steven. The less heat the better.

Don't use herbs or combine herbs with medications or use them during lactation or pregnancy without talking with your healthcare provider.
